Flight Lieutenant Joe Britton MBBS BSc (Hons) DHMSA MRCP ARAeS RAF

Flt Lt Britton is a Medical Officer, currently training as a Registrar in Aviation and Space Medicine at the Centre of Aviation Medicine at RAF Henlow.

Britton studied Medicine at King’s College London, graduating in Aug 2013. Whilst at university he worked as a Volunteer Police Constable with the Metropolitan Police and joined the University of London Air Squadron. After his first year on ULAS he attended OASC where he was awarded a medical bursary. In 2010 he completed an intercalated BSc in Aerospace Physiology in 2009 where he first developed his passion for aviation medicine. His two years of Foundation Training were spent at MDHU Frimley Park and included Intensive Care and Emergency Medicine rotations as well as general ward jobs. Following this he began his General Duties Medical Officer year in the medical centre at RAF Coningsby before attending RAFC Cranwell for Specialist Entrant and Re-Entrant officer training. Following graduation he moved to RAF Henlow where he became a Member of the RAF Medical Board.

In Aug 2016, Flt Lt Britton returned to London to begin Core Medical Training at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, completing his examinations for Membership of the Royal College of Physicians and securing a place on Higher Training. Throughout his career Britton has been active in Aviation Medicine research and quality improvement based on safety lessons from the aviation industry. He has presented internationally and written a chapter for an Aviation and Space Medicine handbook due to be published in 2019.

Flt Lt Britton is married to Sarah who works as a dietitian for children with special needs. Their interests include ski-ing, SCUBA diving and wildlife photography.
