About
Andre has a special interest in cold weather and altitude physiology. In both 2007 and 2013 he worked on the Xtreme Everest expeditions, which were a collaboration between University College London, University of Southampton and Duke University, USA. The Xtreme Everest expedition exploited the oxygen thin air found in the high altitudes of Nepal and at Everest's base camp, to provice critical insights into how intensive care patients can be helped in the future.
Alongside his work at Kings College Hospital, he is also currently the research lead for From Fire to Ice which is following burns survivor Rob Small as he attempts to complete Shackleton's unfinished journey. Andre will be using his knoweldge gained in both clinical work and from the Xtreme Everest expeditions to try and further understand how the human body reacts to extremes of stress, and in particular how the body reacts after suffering a major burn injury.
