Patent gift from Nasa opens up a whole new world of technology
Exciting news for scientists, researchers and inventors interested in space, arrived in the form of 56 patented technologies recently gifted to the public domain by Nasa
Daniel Lockey, from Nasa's 'Technology Transfer' programme, said; "By making these technologies available in the public domain, we are helping foster a new era of entrepreneurship that will again place America at the forefront of high-tech manufacturing and economic competitiveness.", adding that this will give entrepreneurs the opportunity to "explore new ways to commercialise Nasa technologies."
Patents for such items as Lightweight, Variable Solidity Radar Reflective Knitted Parachute Fabric, a Multi-Fingered Robotic Hand or a Space Spider Crane were all originally designed for space missions. Like cordless vacuums and memory foam mattresses before them, its hoped these patents will one day make it into everyday use in the commercial world.
